Shaun P. Miller is an Assistant Chief for the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM). In this capacity, he is responsible for the delivery of the state’s emergency management programs within the 13 counties that comprise the Southeast Texas Region. Shaun came to TDEM in August 2017 shortly before landfall of Hurricane Harvey. Since that time, he has led the division’s regional response through multiple incidents and named disasters.
Commissioned as an active duty U.S. Army officer stationed in Germany, he has been in emergency management since 2000. With various assignments in emergency management and stationed overseas, Shaun has had the unique opportunity to see how other countries manage emergencies. This journey continued with a deployment to Kosovo, multiple deployments to Iraq, and another assignment in Italy as a Department of the Army Civilian where he was responsible for the emergency management program for the Army’s installations in Italy. Prior to coming to TDEM, Shaun was the emergency manager for the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center at the Texas Medical Center.
In addition to his civilian career, Shaun currently serves as a Brigadier General in the U.S. Army Reserve. Shaun has served at nearly every level and has had the distinct opportunity to command twice at the battalion level. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College earning the degree of Master of Strategic Studies.
Shaun is a Certified Emergency Manager and Texas Emergency Manager and holds the Project Management Professional certification. He is also a member of several organizations to include the Emergency Management Association of Texas, Project Management Institute – Houston Chapter, and the International Association of Emergency Managers.
