TDEM Region 4 Assistant Chief Shaun P. Miller Promoted to Brigadier General in the United States Army Reserve

Houston, Texas – Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) proudly announces that Region 4 Assistant Chief Shaun P. Miller has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in the United States (U.S.) Army Reserve. Colleagues, friends, and family celebrated at a promotion ceremony in Houston today. This promotion comes after nearly 25 years of service in a variety of roles and capacities with the U.S. Army.

“On behalf of the entire TDEM team, please join me in congratulating Brigadier General Miller on his military promotion,” said Texas Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd. “Brigadier General Miller’s devoted service to Texas and the nation is to be commended, and our team is pleased to celebrate his continued commitment to our communities.”

Brigadier General Miller serves as the Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army’s 76th Operational Response Command. Commissioned as an active duty U.S. Army officer originally stationed in Germany, he has been engaged in emergency management since 2000. As U.S. Army Reserve Colonel, Shaun has served at nearly every level and has had the distinct opportunity to command twice at the battalion level. He has deployed to Kosovo, been deployed multiple times to Iraq, and held another assignment in Italy as a Department of the Army Civilian where he was responsible for the emergency management program for the Army’s installations in Italy.

“I am proud to achieve this new rank and continue serving our country as a general officer,” said Brigadier General Miller. “This recognition only further intensifies my efforts to serve. Thankyou to my family, friends, and professional colleagues for their ongoing support.” 

In his current position with TDEM,  Brigadier General Miller is responsible for the delivery of the state’s emergency management programs in 13 Southeast Texas counties comprising TDEM Region 4.Shaun joined TDEM in August 2017 shortly before landfall of Hurricane Harvey. Since that time, he has led the Southeast Texas regional response through multiple incidents and declared disasters. Prior to coming to TDEM, Shaun was the emergency manager for the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center at the Texas Medical Center.

He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College earning the degree of Master of Strategic Studies. He resides in Katy with his wife and three sons.
