With severe storms causing heavy rain, damaging wind, large hail, and flash flooding across Texas this week, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) encourages citizens to report property damages.
Using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) damage surveys, Texans can report damage to homes and businesses. The information provided in the surveys assist emergency management officials across the state gain an understanding of damages that occurred and help officials determine if the Lone Star State meets federal requirements for disaster assistance.

“Collecting information through the iSTAT damage surveys provides critical information to state and local emergency management officials about damage sustained during weather incidents,” said Texas Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd. “Damage assessments have begun in affected areas, and Texans can help by filling out the survey information, sharing pertinent details and uploading photos to assist in that process.”
The iSTAT damage survey can be filled out in English and Spanish online by visiting damage.tdem.texas.gov and clicking on October Heavy Rain Event.

Additionally, as the rain subsides and sunny conditions return, flooding threats remain in areas along Texas rivers as floodwater from upstream makes its way to the Gulf of Mexico.
“Flooding in major river basins– especially the lower Guadalupe– could linger across much of the mid Coastal Plains well into next week,” stated TDEM Meteorologist John Honoré.
Reporting damage through iSTAT surveys is a voluntary activity and is not a substitute for reporting damage to your insurance agency. It does not guarantee disaster relief assistance.
